How to compress a PDF online
- Choose one PDF.
- Pick Lossless to keep everything as it is, or Pages as images to re-render each page as a JPEG at the resolution and quality you choose.
- Compress and compare the before and after size. If the result is not smaller, we tell you and keep your original.
Limits and what to expect
- Unencrypted PDFs only, up to 50 MiB and 100 pages. Interactive forms and signed PDFs are rejected. Each operation stops after two minutes.
- Lossless mode only repacks the file and drops unused objects. Many PDFs are already efficient and will not shrink.
- Image mode converts every page into a picture: text can no longer be selected, searched or copied, and links, bookmarks, attachments and metadata are removed. Rendering is limited to 25 megapixels per page.
How much smaller will my PDF get?
It depends on the file. Lossless mode helps files with unused data left behind by editing; it changes nothing visible. Image mode helps large scans and heavy graphics, but text-only PDFs can become larger. The result shows the measured sizes, and we never offer a file that is larger than your original.
Why does image mode remove selectable text?
Each page is redrawn as a single JPEG image. That makes size predictable, but the result is like a scan: no text layer, links or form fields. Keep the original for anything that needs searching, copying or accessibility.
Which settings should I use?
Start with Lossless. If you need a much smaller file to email and only need it to be readable, use image mode with 110 DPI and medium quality. Use 150 DPI and high quality for small print.
Do my files leave my device?
No. These tools run locally in your browser. Choose up to 50 MiB of input and 100 PDF pages. No account, upload, or AI request is required.
