How to add page numbers to a PDF online
- Choose one PDF.
- Choose a position (top or bottom; left, center or right), a format such as “1”, “Page 1” or “1 of 12”, the starting number, font size and margins.
- Optionally limit numbering to a page range, such as 2-10 to skip a cover. Add the numbers and download the new PDF.
Limits and what to expect
- Unencrypted PDFs only, up to 50 MiB and 100 pages. Interactive forms and signed PDFs are rejected. Each operation stops after two minutes.
- Numbers use the standard Helvetica font in dark gray. Numbers are added on top of existing content; check that they do not cover text near the page edge.
- Bookmarks, links and metadata already in the document are kept because pages are updated in place.
How does “1 of N” count pages?
Numbers run in document order across the pages you select. N is the last number printed, so starting at 1 on ten selected pages gives “1 of 10” to “10 of 10”. Start at 3 to continue the count from an earlier document.
Can I skip the cover page?
Yes. Enter a page range such as 2-20. Only those pages receive numbers, and the first selected page gets the start number.
What about rotated or landscape pages?
Positions follow the page as it is displayed, so a number placed at the bottom center stays at the bottom center of a rotated or landscape page.
Will my original PDF change?
No. A new PDF is created and your original is unchanged. Interactive forms, signed PDFs and encrypted files are not supported.
Do my files leave my device?
No. These tools run locally in your browser. Choose up to 50 MiB of input and 100 PDF pages. No account, upload, or AI request is required.
